Exegesis Over Eisegesis

If you’re looking for a little extra study in God’s word, if you’re looking to gain greater skill in how to interpret God’s word, then check out Pastor Scott’s Youtube channel, Exegesis Over Eisegesis.

What is Exegesis Over Eisegesis?

The prefixes themselves may be helpful in understanding these two terms. The “ex” in exegesis means “out.” The “eis” in eisegesis means “into.” When exegeting a text, therefore, we are “drawing out” the original, intended meaning of the text, not “reading meaning into” the text.

Exegesis Over Eisegesis is an attempt to equip Christians with a grammatical-historical approach to interpreting God’s word. This has been a passion of Scott Gourley throughout the years—whether as the Senior Pastor of The Way Fellowship Church in Peoria, AZ or as an adjunct professor at Grand Canyon University. The need to correctly handle God’s word is of eternal importance, for if we misinterpret God’s word, then we run the incredible risk of also misapplying it, which can only lead to great ruin.
